It's over at TMF. For most of us.

Greetings all :)

Six days remain until the most of the free year comps are up at TMF. If you have any friends or great posters you know of who you would like to have join us, let them know before Friday. I've thought of breaking my word and posting there one more time just to let some of the old indexers I haven't heard from for a year know where we all are. Most of the crew is here already but I can think of a few who are MIA. I'm on the fence on this and guess I'll decide by Thursday.

Anyway just wanted to give notice to those who didn't know Friday is the last day at TMF. For most of us this will be the last chance so why not make the most of it.

No need, if you're really trying to stay true to your convictions. Several here have already mentioned NFB on our old board. And I believe there are some who will make the jump. There was a post a few weeks back by a poster, Lokici*us, who talked about 2/14 and his opinion on being forced to decide to leave. His post received quite a few rec's, especially for that board level of activity of late. So we'll have to see. I'll be sure to remind others there near the end of our days there who may have forgotten (as if that were possible).

Hi ES,

They are very well aware of NFB over at the TMF REHP, in part due to controversy started by yours truly and the blasphemous "fawning admirers" post.

I don't know if they know about us at the Index funds site but it might be worth one last post over there to remind them.

Thanks Bookm. Since your going to post something I see no need. Besides it would probably just start a ruckus and who needs it.

LOL! Has that one been posted over here? I'd like to read it.

I'm afraid I've missed them all. :(I never hung out at the REHP when I was over there. I guess I also missed a lot of good stuff as well. :(

Anyway like I said, it should be an interesting week!

Or maybe there will be a slow drain over the next few years as some get comped and others don't?

Incredible! And total Bull S&%T! I knew they'd do this. They sucker in as many poor souls as they can and then comp everyone else. At this point I'd rank "financial advisors" higher on my list than TMF and that's saying something! After the crap they've pulled over the last year anyone who wants that place can have it. It would take a blind man to not see what's going on over there. What a scam. Pathetic.

Hi es!

I will be spending my time here. Is there anyway to help you? I plan on sending a donation when my tax return gets back. If I can do anything more please let me know. Keep up the great work! Jim W.

ElSupremo about the Motley Fool's decision about complimentary subscriptions:

I was getting quite enthusiastic about how nice those boards would be without some of those who were leaving.

Just think, if they were to let some members go and if they were to add a raddr here and an ElSupremo there and treated them right, it would be a wonderful place to post.

Time to wake up and face the harsh realities of life...elsewhere.

Have fun.

Perhaps, but I like it here considerably better. Look at the posts on this board compared with the plain text posts on TMF. No contest. No Fees(Many at TMF already got screwed on that one.) No Adds(Not even for OUR services. 8)) No Spam(Or trolls, or ...). I don't even have to comp anyone!

Right now the only thing TMF may have an advantage in is numbers. Time will take care of that and then it will be a simple choice even for the simple minded.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner but it got a little busy.
Is there anyway to help you?

If you ask me you just did! :D Thanks for the wonderful email and hang in there. Once you've got the basics down the learning curve is not nearly as steep. May I suggest you post your questions on the Index Funds Board? They are very good questions and you'll get the benefit of all the experience our board has to offer. Also, thanks to John, we now have a new "Newbies" board. You just can't screw up a post on that board so fire away!

Thanks for the kind words and the support! It is very much appreciated!

ES,

I have been offered a free year by Fool HQ, so I will be deserting you. I'm sorry.

Just kidding!!

I had kinda gotten myself outta the habit of posting there as I knew the membership was up. Like it here now.. Much more wide discussion.

For Jim Walter and anyone with the same question:
I will be spending my time here. Is there anyway to help you?

There should come a day, soon, when anyone searching at google.com on terms like early retirement or financial independence or index funds or safe withdrawal rates will find nofeeboards.com or sites that link with it.

According to http://www.google.com/technology/index.html
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B.

:idea:You may be able to help by inserting a link to nofeeboards.com from some appropriate site that you control or influence. If you have a personal site, maybe a free service from your Internet Service Provider, you can insert a link to this forum and mention its topics. Then watch to see if google.com indexes your site under those topics.

http://www.google.com/addurl.html says
We add and update new sites to our index each time we crawl the web, and we invite you to submit your URL here. We do not add all submitted URLs to our index, and we cannot make any predictions or guarantees about when or if they will appear.

es -

I'm afraid I've missed them all. I never hung out at the REHP when I was over there. I guess I also missed a lot of good stuff as well.

you are missing "good stuff" like this characterization of how we as a group handled a difficult situation:

I don't see any shortage of discussion on this board. But I agree that some people get upset when another poster points out the fallacies or logical lapses in what's being proposed. The only way around that is to stifle the discussion in the same manner that's employed on "that other board". <grin>

intercst

fortunately, ben solar was there to clean up the misrepresentations:

There is no 'stifling of discussion' at www.nofeeboards.com. I assume you refer to hocus' earlier statement about being asked to not post about REHP/SWR/intercst issues over there. The request was only that he not bring that jihad into other, unrelated threads:

excerpts of the supposedly 'stifling' request:

<<
I would like to request that issues of board management that seem to plague other spots, be confined to that other spot (or perhaps the Town Center?)? Failing that, might I request that we confine such discussions to appropriately labeled threads?
...
I think another spot's biggest problem is the inability to retain "malcontents," who possess particularly valuable insights but can only communicate them by "walking the plank" rejecting the orthodoxy openly and vigorously. i think this has compromised that site's value. I don't want that to happen here and i think we run that risk if we continue to make too many references or hash out issues related to that other place here.
...
but lenghty discussion on the board management issues of another spot are probably best left for that spot to sort out.
...
Hopefully this will be taken in the spirit in which it is offered - a humble request in the best interests of ALL involved
>>

Stifling? I think not. A deftly handled job of defusing a potential problem, meant to open the doors wide to all who wish to join the discussion over there.

Wanderer, you really did handle that superbly.
