Hi John!
I read an early release too. I thought it was OK, but certainly no blockbuster. It was tough to get through for me as it was very wordy. There are some good points, but one thing I have a problem with is exactly how a middle class family making the median income is going to be able to save enough to retire before they are 50 solely by saving, which, if I recall is the premise of the book (it's been a couple of months since I read it). Maybe you could run some numbers based on estimated returns.

Life is Good.
hi bb, I think the key is how you define retirement. ben and I discussed this with hocsu extensively- basically rob is a freelance writer (formerly an employee) although he still works for money he sees this as a form of retirement
nice review of the hocswu book by jrw at one of these:

caution- one of these links may be to a fake

intercst's take on hocsu's latest nonsense (about nfb this time)
Wonderful, delusional Hocomania is back!!!
http://www.passionsaving.com/TodaysPassion.html
There's not much going on nowadays at the NoFeeBoard.com site's FIRE board (the acronym stands for "Financially Independent/Retired Early"). But the dedicated Passion Saver should make the Post Archives of this board an early stop on his or her journey to a life of financial freedom. This is one of the most important boards of the first six years of our movement's history, a board with a history rich in insights.
<snip>
I have been banned from further participation at the FIRE board at the insistence of supporters of the REHP study (I am the poster who discovered that the methodology used in the study is analytically invalid for purposes of determining SWRs, and who reported this reality to fellow community members). I have been banned from the Motley Fool board and the Early Retirement Forum for the same reason. I of course never broke any posting rule at any of those boards, and the owners of the three boards have of course not claimed that I have. They justify the bannings by pointing to the damage done to their boards by posts put forward "in the wake" (Dory36's phrase) of mine, the abusive tactics employed by REHP study supporters to block reasoned discussion of the SWR topic.

looks like hocsu will never tire of reminding es of his financial contribution and giving "advice"
I am the second largest financial contributor to the NoFeeBoards.com site (this is the site that houses the FIRE board) in the site's history. I admire El Supremo ("ES") for his entreprenurial zeal in providing a home for the FIRE board. That said, I believe strongly that, if his venture is to succeed, he will need to develop the fortitude required to stand up to the types of posters who believe that because they have made a good number of contributions to a board they have come to "own" it and can decide for the entire community what can and cannot be said at a particular board community. To attract good posters back to the FIRE board, ES is going to need to enforce the site rules in a reasonable manner.......
Perhaps ES will come to learn this important lesson in days to come. Perhaps not. In any event, we will continue to have access to the rich insights generated by the FIRE board community of an earlier day for so long as the NoFeeBoards.com site retains its little spot on the amazing Planet Internet.

I find it sort of interesting that he says
and then links to nfb fire- one of the many sites that have revoked his posting privileges
The problem is a real one. The proper response, of course, is not to deny the community its often-expressed desire to engage in reasoned debate of what it takes to win financial freedom early in life, but to take the actions required to rein in the small number of highly abusive posters blah blah blah

my fault for dredging it up or jrw's for posting links to hocsu's web site and trying to help him sell his book?
I'm not assigning fault. Just saying that I would be just as happy if nobody discussed any aspect of that old issue, or responded to other people discussing it. (With which, I will henceforth shut up myself.)
And of course anyone is free to disagree with/ignore my preferences.
