I really like those penguins!

Say what? Those are Biker Chicks! Maybe I should edited it a little. Doesn't show up very well.
Also, I give up on this other thing. My advice would be to ignore those you choose to, fight it out with those you want to, and the rest of us will get along fine. How's that sound?

Sounds fine to me. For the life of me, I don't know what "old crap" I put in the first post. I was trying to be very careful and non-committal. I'm non-plussed.
I've only kayaked once.

I'm visiting my Dad in March with my brother. We'll have plenty of chances to take out the two-person kayak. And I'll take plenty of pictures for future use. Maybe I can get one with the dog in it . She's very cute.

None of that (whatever it was) happened here at the NFBs, so I don't see any constructive reason to rehash it unless and until a problem arises here.

You are new here, Beachbumz. The reality is that the intercst matter is of deadly relevance to this board. This board was formed by people trying to escape intercst. That was the entire point. There were a number of fine posters who were seeking to have on-topic discussions in peace, and they started this place to make that possible.

Ataloss didn't go along with that idea. And eventually Ataloss dragged raddr over to the dark side, and then Wanderer and so on. Check out the Post Archives of the FIRE board. This was a very happening place in the days before the DCMs burned this board to the ground so that we could continue to cover up the errors that intercst made in the REHP study.

Here's a thread from the very early days of the FIRE board. Check out what people at this board were saying re the intercst matter at that time. You would think that it was an entire community of hocuses.

http://www.nofeeboards.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=119

Raddr: "history won't repeat exactly the same way which is why you have to take a study like that done at REHP with a large grain of salt."

Wanderer: "I bet someone would argue that you are therefore "predicting something worse than the past" whatever the f that means. LOL. "

BenSolar: "Funny! You would definitely get that response elsewhere, as well as the other stock defense: "Well, even 0% wouldn't help if an asteroid hit."

Wanderer: "That's another part of the misdirection and deception - anyone who questions 4% is "hysterical", overly obsessive abt control.

"Did someone ever respond to your challenge abt knowingly misdirecting the debate when you called him on it? "

BenSolar: "Nope. Apparently my more nettlesome posts are better left unanswered. "

Wanderer: "i give the 4% rule it's due: about 15 seconds of thought.....i left because i couldn't convince someone to change his claustrophobic mind on an asset class that represents 50% of us market cap. apparently knowingly misquoting the return for 2 years had nothing to do with it. deception, misdirection... copare his response to a "problem" to that of jwr... bizarre. "

In those days there was none of this business of raddr smearing JWR1945 and Ataloss smearing hocus and all the rest. We were a family, a group of people working together to learn what it takes to win financial freedom early in life. We were learning together and we were having fun together.

The poison here was the deception, just as it was at the Motley Fool board. Deception has poisoned our discussions at every board community at which it has been employed to block honest and informed threads from developing in a natural way.

ES, is that avatar too big? I don't know what the protocol is. The Queen Bee seems to have a rather large one :).

Well the smaller the better. You could make it just a little smaller. That would be good. Thanks for asking!

My advice would be to ignore those you choose to, fight it out with those you want to, and the rest of us will get along fine. How's that sound?

We'll all have to struggle along the best we can, ES.

I would like to see those who are willing to devote enormous energies to disruption of threads that contain honest and informed statements re our history put one-tenth of that amount of energy into reining in the more disruptive tendencies of the DCMs.

The quotes that I posted above are all from this board, but they are all very much in line with comments that have been made at every board at which there has been discussion of the realities of SWRs. There is an intense desire to know what the historical data says. There is an even more intense dislike of the ugliness brought to the table by the DCMs.

When we work together to rein in the ugliness, we get to the place where the real fireworks (the good kind!) begin. I doubt that there will be one community member (well, maybe one) who will regret us having made the crossover after we all see the exciting stuff that follows when honest and informed on-topic posting is permitted once again.

Honest and informed on-topic posting is what got these boards off the ground in earlier days, and I believe that it is honest and informed on-topic posting that someday in the future is going to remind us why once upon a time we used to get so excited talking about and learning about this stuff.

My personal belief is that we are more than half way to where we need to be. I sure hope so, anyway.

For the life of me, I don't know what "old crap" I put in the first post. I was trying to be very careful and non-committal.

You said that the reason why there is so little on-topic debate at the Motley Fool board is that there is nothing on-topic to talk about, Arrete. That completely disses the scores of fine posters who have tried to get on-topic discussions started there and who have been subjected to some pretty darn abusive treatment for making the effort to do so.

You obviously are very sensitive to hearing anything negative said about you. Well, how do you think that the posters who come to the Motley Fool board in all innocence thinking that on-topic debate is permitted there feel when they are subjected to "the Treatment." I ask that you please think that one over the next time a newcomer to that board asks why it is so rare to see an on-topic thread there nowadays.

Welcome Arrete! :D
I post practically anywhere that does not cost me money :D but even read the fool.com board too.
My Fool.com membership expired last month but I did not continue since the other FIRE boards already take more of my time than needed.
Cheers!

Needs versus wants. Isn't that the old refrain?

Why aren't you hanging out on the beach instead of reading a lot of internet stuff?
Normal; to put on clothes bought for work
So do you wear shorts like the Aussies now that you're in the Caribbean? (if you see Johnny Depp, send him my way!) I always enjoyed hanging out at the Pentagon when the Aussies were in town.

Er, space-wise, it seems like the others. Just a lot closer up. I was mistaken.

I've never told you this before, Kathyet (it's always seemed to be a little too personal a comment to make) but I love your icon image. It's my favorite, except for the one used by Mr. 007.

Ah, well. Time to teach Bookm unclemick's Kayak defense he developed on Dory36's board. For hijacked threads and posters who can't take a hint.

Thank you for the example, and also to SG for a firsthand glimpse of kayaking. However I don't think I can do it, I've never kayaked before.
