No problem. I stuck my nose out to keep discussions and dialog open and to understand where the divergences occur. As stated in my "analysis" thread, and discussed haphazardly in the "swr 6.11%" thread, some thinking around valuations is worthwhile, at least on original asset all...

Hocus - For starters, I'm a lying sack of #$% because I said I wasnt going to read any more about SWR's and I did. I spent a good 10 minutes trying to figure out how to be diplomatic about this, then decided not to be. Your actions in removing salaryguru's post and your comments about it are no diff...

Ok, so "have fun" then translates roughly to "have a good time, keep your pants on, and let me know if that little $#^%$ touches you".

Seems odd in this context, but...ok. :P

ES .... I'm still trying to understand .... th repeatedly makes the point I'll say it again: it can only bother you if you read it, and then only if you let it and you repeatedly fully agree I'll second that. Again. .... so why censor my posts and my threads? ... OK so in your view they're crap but...

I don't need this nonsense so I will take th's suggestion to raddr (probably the most valuable contributor to this site) and leave Actually that wasnt my suggestion. My suggestion was to act like a grown up with the wherewithal to retire early and learn the simple act of ignoring someone that "...

By the way, "have fun" isnt code for "F--- You!", is it? ;)

Sounds fine. The only problem you might have with that strategy is outliving your money. My plans dont involve cannibalizing my portfolio. The only other problem is that the securities Hocus bought at the rates he bought them at are unavailable. But thats only a temporary problem. And you havent add...

Ken - You may be shocked at this, but in the course of managing (wild guess) 300-350 people in total, I fired exactly one. He was an ok performer, but was driving 90 minutes each way to work and one of our customers loved him and wanted to hire him, but our contract with the customer prohibited hiri...

Hocus - You are most welcome to continue to talk about anything you like, including SWR. Whatever your feelings are with regards to it, historical, future or present is simply not interesting to *me* any longer. As I said, except for an academic perspective when I was in the mood to be academic, it ...

My taxable fund is largely in a conservative managed fund at vanguard... I am thinking you mean Wellesley Admiral. I was looking at both this fund and Wellington. Both of them seem like sensibly run funds for the retiree. I may put some of my taxable portfolio into one of them in the future, it is ...

What I guess is *an* independent analysis of all of this

I never thought an ethereal subject could gain such legs. Thank you in advance for reading this very long missive as I usually wont spend the time required to read such a long document. Thank you also for your comments, suggestions and retorts. To start off, I have absolutely no love or hate for any...

If your primary intention was to tell people where you were going, you certainly fooled me by titling your post "I cant take this anymore" and spending the first paragraph lamenting the state of affairs of this board. I also wasnt aware there was a time limit one had to observe before expr...

Come to think of it, the rich's current 35% equity is still very conservative. They mostly seem to be trying to avoid major losses, rather than trying to aggressively make more. They already have enough to live on for the rest of their lives, and only have to avoid taking big risks in order to main...

KenM - I'm glad you appreciate the vernacular, however a jerk and an asshole are mutually opposites. In fact, on the rare occasions someone calls me a jerk, I correct them by saying "No, i'm an asshole". To delineate, a jerk is simply a bad mannered, ill informed person with no purpose. An...

I will point out that roughly 90% of the "mess", aka disruption, came from members other than hocus. I've actively participated here for a week. Most of the posts are "I cant take this anymore/I'm leaving/I'm retiring". Despite the obvious fact that this feeds the very fear expre...

Perhaps we're merely mistaking the cause and effect. Is it that high net worth individuals time the market well, or that they're high net worth individuals as a result of a couple of lucky market times? I got out in early 2000 and went into reits and balanced indexes. I wanted to get out in late 99 ...

Its really a proud moment when we can all act with responsibility and maturity, rather than becoming a worse pain in the ass than the one we're unhappy about.

Good job!

However, I would think calling anything SG has an "accessory" to be nothing short of overgrandizing :D Perhaps "impedimenta" would be appropriate...

Funny, in light of this I looked at my allocations. In my taxable fund, 28% equities, mostly large cap with a P/E of 14 or less, high dividend yield, a small chunk of europe and pacific stock indexes. The rest split equally between short corp and intermediate corp and financial bonds. My IRA is 100%...
