You would think hocus and raddr would be allies. Hi Neuro, Indeed we were allies for awhile. What finally did me in though, after months of giving him ammo for use in his jihad against intercst (a person whom I have no respect for), was his accusing me of using "weasel words" because I co...

The last straw for me personally was when I tried to interject some reality checks re: book publishing and promotion. I sincerely doubt that there is any imminent hocus book or internet site, nor are there any interviews, newspaper articles, etc. coming soon. These are all part of the rather poorly...

Well said, petey. I was a (the?) person who solicited hocus posting here. He wore out his welcome even with me. I wasn't for banning, but I'm not clear how our community is poorer for his absence given his recent posting practices. What was I getting from his presence recently? If I sat down and at...

If you want to call an overwhelming majority decision "group think" then I guess it is. Hardly. That's like saying it's group-think when an overwhelming majority finds pissing in public unacceptable. Sometimes fact is fact -- there are some behaviors that are just disruptive by any object...

Greetings raddr :) If you want to call an overwhelming majority decision "group think" then I guess it is. This was all more about disruption than anything else. There comes a point when hard decisions must be made for the good of the whole vs. the individual. That applies to large corpor...

Re: So there was this post on another board...

Some of us have seen this for many, many, many (many, many.....) months. I just find it amusing when a new person doubts that he could be that bad. Yeah, he could be THAT bad. *shrug* Hi ChocoKitty, The "new person" said he was here to learn about the banning and "not to stir anythin...

From the examples I can think of it almost always lowers the quality when opposing elements disappear, in particular when they are in effect voted off because this tells a lot about the people that remain. Why don't you invite him to discuss SWR's, intercst's thought crimes, and conspiracy theories...

Re: So there was this post on another board...

Greetings NFBers :) I'm compelled to at least say something in response to a post about me on another board that has been referenced here in another thread. All I can say is I've never seen such a pile of confused and manipulated information in all my born days! :shock:And the ONLY part of that pos...

I'd forgotten about this one. Gotta love this part: The potential problem is that I continue to believe that the community of people with an interest ...

Hi Ben,

Yes, hocus has been banned here at NFB. I don't think that there is any doubt that "Sam Cooke" is hocus.

It wouldn't surprise me if he tried. I don't think that ES would have too much patience with him if he does sign up under an alias, though.

All kidding aside, whatever your opinion of "Sam's" banning here at NFB is, it's really nice to see the boards back to normal now. The cancer has been excised and the patient is doing much better. :D

LOL. I won't be posting here much for a while, but you just made me spit out my noodle soup, raddr. (some - apparently all liquid - exited thru my nostrils.) blocking reasoned discussion of the realities of SWRs I wonder how "SamCooke" would know all that stuff. The games continue....

hocus has been banned from participation at the NFB site (NoFeeBoards.com) because of board reaction to his postings re the SWR matter! El Supremo, site owner, informed hocus of this action in an e-mail sent late Thursday afternoon. El Supremo did not charge hocus with any violations of site rules....

I would hate to see you go. This is the kind of thing that really gives trolls a charge - driving people away from a message board. Divide-conquer-destroy. I second karma's thoughts. It galls me to see a good poster like Ken consider leaving because of the disruptive influence of another.

Re: Do we agree at least on what SWR's have been historicall

Interesting points, raddr. In which case, what sort of returns do you use for calculating a w/d rate you use? Petey, For the S&P500 I'd postulate about a 3% real return based on the Gordon equation and other valuation parameters. For REITS I take the yield minus one. IOW if REITS are yielding 5...

Re: Do we agree at least on what SWR's have been historicall

Don't we all agree that in those charts, whether they use Shiller's Price/Earnings ratio based on current earnings or trailing 10-Year average earnings, the historically observed safe withdrawal rates have ranged from at least 4% to at most 11%? I think that stock returns would've been considerably...

Re: At the calculation stage, the SWR is a data-based constr

obviously with monte carlo, the inputs are best estimates ie non-objective the output is thus an estimate (hence raddr's weasel words - in hocus' terminology) Monte Carlo analysis is highly dependent on the inputs so, yes, unless you can predict the future then it is GIGO (garbage in, garbage out)....
