Is there a risk of living 31 years?

I believe you're talking through your hat. Speaking loosely now, the classic 4% SWR is based on an assumption that the future will look like the past. You believe that's wrong. Hell, I believe it's wrong too. As far as I can tell, everyone else, even intercst, admits that it's wrong. actually inter...

There is only one person on this board that is twisting himself into a pretzel, and it ain't me! Intercst believes your plan is 'half-assed', he has a right to his opinion. My motivation was to show that your plan was not as 'half-assed' as maybe he thinks. This is my opinion, I have a right to it....

FI plus no work = retirement FI plus desire to work could = retirement (retire from one job to play in another, etc) non-FI plus desire to work, not = retirement non-FI plus no desire to work, not = retirement exactly as ben pointed out on another board (rehp hocomania ) Ascenzym; fully agree. Hocu...

taking the opportunity to agree with hocus, I think his plan is a good one for "retirement" if you don't mind the need to work

he explained his concept of retirement elsewhere (rehp hocomania board? )

If you want to do one decent thing for me out of respect for our past friendship, stop trashing this site because you hate one of the posters here. I don't think I have said anything negative about the site overall. There are good posts and threads and some great posters. Unfortunately hocus2004 ha...

The problem we (and the other boards) face is a problem of board integrity. I would agree with hocus on this one. To keep hocus from going ballistic (as es desires) you have to ignore the fact that he really doesn't make much sense. few are willing to wade through all the verbiage. (and I think thi...

unclemick, don't think you will see much data. for my part I am skeptical about swr claims and the more strongly somone insists on their method the more suspicious I become. Will rogers may have said " It isn't what you don't know that hurts you. It's what you know for sure . . . that just ain'...

hi unclemick, I guess raddr would be the houbolt in this scenario. he is running a board inexpensively and successfully and put up a post to assuage concerns that the increased board volume was going to lead to problems. ES took offense at this. I want ES to be happy and I appreciate all the hard wo...

hi mickeyd, it is pretty uninteresting as a matter of fact. I am amused that hocus wants it to be board policy that anyone who points out his trasgressions should be silenced as a matter of board policy. glad to see that es is not giving in.

I agree with Ben, I'll be posting here and there. The problem I see with posting here is the hijacking (and attempted hijacking) of threads by hocus and jwr. To post here, you need to do what everyone in this thread has done and ignore the hocus post. It is sort of interesting to see him look for co...

johnnym, good point about the db pension plan with cola (and guaranteed health care benefits probably) takes a lot of the guess work away
best to have the plan from a reliable source (with taxing authority +- ability to print money)

too bad th was driven off the board although now that he isn't around to defend himself I see that this is being recharacterized as a victory over a defender of the convential methodology

It's his money, he can do what he likes with it.

jwr is far to wise to use some datamined nonsense, he has a pension that meets his needs and invests in stocks for the next generation
